1. 30 Under 30 on 10/27
Tomorrow night, Wednesday October 27, I will be in Washington, DC to be
honored by the Youth Vote Coalition as one of thirty people under thirty
who are impacting youth politics in America. It is the tenth anniversary
for Youth Vote, an organization and frankly a movement, that I have been
involved in for about eight or nine years, so it is a big honor and one
that I am quite proud of and wanted to share with my friends. It is an
open event and possibly my last night in DC, so if anyone wants to come
to Café Savino in Dupont Circle from 5-8 PM, please let me know.
It is free to come, but it is a fundraiser for Youth Vote, so small (even
$10 donations are cool, but not required). More information is available
at: http://www.youthvote.org/voter_30_under_30.cfm
2. Defending My AP on 11/1
Next Monday, November 1 at 1:00, I will be defending my final Analytical
Paper at the University of Delaware about methods to increase youth civic
participation. Essentially, this is my thesis-defense and makes me one
very big step closer to completing my Masters. This is also an open event,
so especially for you fellow classmates, friendly faces are welcome to
hear me talk about a topic I love on the eve of a very big day.
3. Saving the World on 11/2
The truth is, my biggest hope is that we have an Election Day without controversy,
with huge, national turnout and record-setting youth participation. I also
hope that people make informed decisions based on issues, that every vote
is counted, and that Kerry-Edwards (and Ruth Ann, John Carney, Matt Denn, …)
are all successful. If you remain an entirely undecided voter and want
my well-educated, albeit slanted point-of-view, just say the word. If you
try to vote and someone denies you, call 1-866-OUR-VOTE or call me and
I’ll come set people straight. What’s my prediction for Election
Day … check out www.electoral–vote.com and brace yourself for
the youth vote!
4. Leaving for India on 11/4?
Sometime very soon after Election Day, I expect to be getting on a plane
and going to India for about 18 months. I’ve loved being home to
be in school and see family and friends, but I miss my fiancée and
am anxious to start my job doing Human Rights work at the US Embassy. I’ve
recruited a half-dozen or so people who may be coming to India and will
soon be sending to each of them some travel tips. If you want to be on
the “recruit me to come to India list”, let me know.
5. Cats and Dogs
Basically, I have four other points I wanted to share. (A) I am in need
of party planning volunteers for the February 2100 Fund Party, this is
a great opportunity to plan a big party and raise money for charity. (B)
Our apartment in Logan Circle may be opening up to be rented soon, if you
are interested or know someone who might be, let me know. (C) I am going
to a fun, Halloween Party on Friday night in Delaware at Kevin, Andy and
David’s house – so come with! (D) Finally, if you change your
email address, please update it on the yahoogroup (or if you want messages
to go to a different email). I am trying to only use this list for mass
emails to stay in touch with friends. My next note will certainly be from
India! Hope to see you before I go.
Vote on Tuesday!
